Too Much Success

Tuesday, September 29th, 2009

When you succeed too much you actually end up failing I have found out. At the start of this summer I potted an herb and vegetable garden for the first time ever and tended to the plants somewhat diligently all summer long. They grew pretty well and I enjoyed the occasional sprigs of mint and basil but sort of stopped paying attention as nothing else was really growing. Well, as frost now approaches I went out to check on the plants and found out that the tomatoes actually did quite well. However, since I let them sit out for way too long they all fell to the dirty porch floor or got to be overripe and split.  Boo.

North by Fail

Monday, September 28th, 2009

I really, really wanted a nice, relaxing Sunday. It started off great with some beer brats on the grill washed down with Oktoberfests on a georgeous fall day. The Packers then finally looked like a football team while I had some more beer and I was feeling great.

Shortly after the game though my downstairs neighbor knocked on my door and asked me to help carry some heavy boxes in for her. Grumble grumble grumble and downstairs I go where we discover that someone has just hit and killed the cat that belongs to the neighbors across the alley from us and left it right outside our garage. I’m a softy so this made me pretty mad and put me in a bad mood.

I then decided I’d finally get around to watching North by Northwest which I have been trying to rent from Netflix for about 2 months. While watching the movie I thought I’d finally restring and clean my guitar.

Well, surprise surprise, the DVD was cracked pretty badly and only made it about 45 minutes into the movie before things started skipping and freezing.

Then, in a moment of sincere surprise, I took the last strings off of my guitar and the nut, which I knew had a small crack in it, fell into about 5 pieces.  Crap.

So, instead of two hours of movie and guitar I got about three and a half hours of fail. Yay.

Bang Boom Crash

So, after losing the upstairs of our apartment I moved my drumset into the basement but have not been able to play it since because it’s simply too loud. I have a set of mesh practice heads which I’ve been meaning to put on but was unable to do because I lost my drum key at some point. Well, I finally got a new drum key and got all excited to put the practice heads on and start playing again when I remembered that the practice heads are actually for a drumset one size too small. Awesome. I’ll have to find some new practice heads or devise some stupid muting system involving old t-shirts or something. Boooo.

Worse than I Thought

It’s most likely a cartilage tear. MRI coming soon.

How Old am I?

Wednesday, September 23rd, 2009

I’m finally getting my knee checked out tomorrow. I hurt it the week before Easter and it’s still not quite right. Crossing my fingers and hoping for no long-term damage.

Ouch

I played soccer yesterday on my lunch break… all by myself while wearing dress slacks and dress shoes. That twenty minutes of pointlessly kicking a ball across an empty field has left me incredibly sore and reminded me that I really should get my knee checked out by a doctor. It sure is awesome being 24 and having the leg strength of my grandma.

Cookies?

Monday, September 14th, 2009

My dessert tonight was 3 week old cookie crumbles microwaved in a Hogwarts coffee mug. It was fail food but it was surprisingly ok.

Electronics

Sunday, September 13th, 2009

I spent 2 hours today blaming audio software for a problem which ended up being my fault in the end. It took two minutes to fix once I figured out what was going on. What a way to waste a beautiful Sunday.

Oh well.

Somehow I really have not failed much lately. I mean, sure, everyday is pretty monotonous and I’m slowly getting older, poorer, and none the wiser but there really hasn’t been anything major to report. Sorry.

Why Must I Fail at Carpentry?

Monday, September 7th, 2009

I put together a bedside table from Ikea with only 2 parts left over yesterday. Also, it was mostly finished after twenty minutes but I spent an additional forty putting the last piece in incorrectly over and over before I finally realized what I was doing wrong. Handy I am not.
